Notta lotta Warcraft

Screenshot of the Level 90 Character Boost screen

This weekend was the first time in ages that I’ve found time to log into World of Warcraft. Partly because of being rather busy, especially at work, but also because there’s not much going on in the game.

The last major content patch was released back in September, so nothing’s really changed in the time since – there’s no new content to play with. More to the point, it’s likely to stay this way for some time; the next expansion, Warlords of Draenor, may not be out until the end of the year. It’s therefore possible that there’ll be another six months with very little to do. It’s perhaps unsurprising that subscriber levels are falling – players are getting bored.

Right now I have four characters at level 90, the most recent of which was one that I boosted. I’ve been spending the past few weeks levelling the professions on that character, and they’re now maxed-out so I’ll probably rest that character until the expansion comes out. The expansion will fundamentally change the way most of the character classes are played, with several abilities being removed to simplify gameplay, so I see little reason in learning how to play a character if major changes are on the horizon. I’ve also stopped playing my other level 90 characters, because there’s little more that I can do with them.

So the focus is on my hunter character, who is now level 86. I used to play my hunter quite a bit during the second expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, but it wasn’t one of the two characters that I levelled during the Cataclysm expansion. I recently decided to play on it again, so I transferred it to my current server and have levelled it from 80 to 86 recently, with the intention of reaching level 90.

So, soon I will have five level 90 characters, and will therefore be in a similar situation as I was at the end of Wrath of the Lich King where I had five level 80 characters. I can’t really see myself levelling a sixth character though – there are only so many times you can play through the Jade Forest without it getting boring. So quite what I will do once this character is level 90, I don’t know. Hopefully there will be some new content to play with sooner rather than later.
