App of the Week: iTunes 12 Days of Christmas

iTunes 12 Days of Christmas app screenshotFor at least the past five years, Apple has run a promotion in Canada and Europe, running through from Boxing Day (26th December, i.e. today) until the 6th January, called the iTunes 12 Days of Christmas. On each of the twelve days, something from the iTunes Store is offered for free – music, a TV programme, an iOS app or an iBook. This year is no exception and the iTunes 12 Days of Christmas app lets you keep up to date with what’s on offer.

On opening, it’ll show you what’s on offer, which today is a ‘Holiday Gift’ of two Maroon 5 remixes and a video of ‘Moves Like Jagger. It’ll also offer push notifications each day when a new offer is ready to download, and there’s a share button to inform your friends on Twitter, Facebook and iMessage.

Sadly, this offer only runs in Europe and Canada; no other countries are involved, including Apple’s home turf in the USA. I suppose the confusing world of music and video rights make it difficult to run this across the world.

iTunes 12 Days of Christmas is a free download, and available for all iOS devices running iOS 5 or later, including the iPad.
