What 2012 may bring

In my review post on Tuesday I hinted about looking forward to 2012. Hopefully it won’t be the year that the earth’s crust destabilises and we’ll all make it through the next 12 months unharmed.

In January Christine and I are off for another of our short breaks – this time to Newcastle-upon-Tyne. When I lived in York I used to go there quite a bit, but since moving further westwards it has become more expensive and time consuming to visit as a day trip, so we’re spending three nights there. We’re also planning to go to Carlisle as well in January, and London later in the year, but not during the Olympics. Whilst I hope, and indeed anticipate, that the Olympics in London will be a resounding success, we don’t have tickets and it’ll be very busy.

We’ll also begin planning our wedding in earnest. We’re looking to get married in mid-2013 so we’ll be looking at venues with the aim of booking at least 12 months in advance if possible.

Technology-wise I don’t anticipate many new purchases. The minimum term on my contract runs out in September so I may upgrade to a new phone – presumably whichever new iPhone model is announced this year – and we may be getting a new TV, albeit a second-hand one from a relative. If so, our current TV will probably move to the bedroom and I’ll be looking at ways of getting internet content on there, either using my old spare PowerPC-based Mac Mini from 2005 or by investing in a Boxee Box, Apple TV or something else.

I hope you have all had a great 2011, and best wishes for 2012!
