Festive Meme

It’s been a while since I did a meme, so here’s one found by the way of Daisy. Enjoy…

  1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate? Never had egg nog, but I do like a nice cup of milky hot chocolate.
  2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? They’re wrapped and put in a big sack. Or a carrier bag.
  3. Coloured lights or white on tree/house? Coloured lights on the tree, white lights in the front window and white lights in a tree in the back garden. Personally I prefer lights when they’re all one colour and not a mixture.
  4. Do you hang mistletoe? Nope.
  5. When do you put your decorations up? The time used to vary but now it’s usually the day after I come home from university. So it’ll probably be this Sunday.
  6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)? Anything with smoked salmon or smoked seatrout. We always have at least one of the two and they’re yummy.
  7. Favourite holiday memory as a child? Difficult one… probably being told I was getting a hamster for Christmas when I was 7.
  8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? No idea; I don’t remember making a big fuss about it though. See also Michele Hanson on the 3 stages of Father Christmas from Tuesday’s Guardian.
  9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? Nope, I always had to wait until Christmas morning. And nowadays I’m usually too tired/comatose to do it late on Christmas Eve.
  10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree? Mostly with red baubles, coloured lights and a few other things. No tinsel though, my mother hates the stuff.
  11. Snow, love it or dread it? Generally I love it, unless I have to go somewhere when it’s snowing and then it’s a pain. But if I have a day off then it’s great to roll around in, and makes for some nice photographic opportunities.
  12. Do you know how to ice skate? Hell no. I spend more time on my arse than stood up.
  13. Do you remember your favourite gift? The big gifts that I really wanted tended to come at my birthday and less so at Christmas, so I can’t remember anything that stands out.
  14. What’s the most important thing about the holidays for you? Seeing my family. The whole family only gets together a few times a year, even if we’re not the biggest family in the world, so it’s really nice to see everyone, especially as we’re more spread out now (i.e. not all living in Yorkshire).
  15. What is your favorite holiday dessert? A toss-up between my grandmother’s chocolate log or my mum’s Christmas Ice Cream Bombe, made out of the leftover Christmas pudding.
  16. What is your favourite holiday tradition? Watching something by Aardman Animations on TV.
  17. What tops your tree? A red pointy thing. Imagine a bouble with a big shiny red lance attached to it.
  18. Which do you prefer giving or receiving? Giving is nice, especially when you actually get something that the person wants. I’m hopeless at buying presents (beyond the obvious ones of chocolates and socks) so it’s nice to know that I could actually find something that the person liked. And no, I haven’t finished my Christmas shopping yet.
  19. Favourite Christmas Song? “I Wish It Could Be Christmas (Every Day)” by Wizzard. Yes, it’s ridiculously overplayed but I still like it. Most Christmas songs are absolute pap though.
  20. Favourite flavour of Candy Canes? Strawberries and cream. Mmmm.

  1. I’m with you on the smoked salmon/seatrout. And the (cheaper) honey roast salmon. Deeelishous 🙂
