No EU Software patents… for now

This is very, very good news. The Legal Affairs Committee of the European Parliament has demanded that the Computer Implemented Inventions Directive (CIID), the piece of legislation that would implement software patents in EU countries, be re-written.
This means that software will not be patentable in the EU for the time being, but also potentially means that any future legislation to introduce them can be blocked or at the very least watered down. Take a look at No Software Patents for more.

  1. Thank god for common sense. I’m ashamed to hear that Charlie McCreevy is involved. He was a sleazy politician here in Ireland and he’ll be even worse in Europe.
