The firewall brigade

John Naughton has a good column about the importance of firewalls on home computers. He quotes figures (which I also saw in this week’s Michael’s Minute) about how two machines without firewalls were compromised in minutes, whereas an almost identical machine with ZoneAlarm installed was seemingly invunerable. This matches my own experiences, having had a Windows XP SP1 computer get infected with Sasser within minutes of it being connected to the internet.
The thing is, I would urge you not to watch Family Guy beforehand. Otherwise, you’ll think the column is written by Stewie…

  1. That was an Excellent article. Full stop.
I would recommend it to anyone you know who has a computer but basically hardly knows how to turn it on.
