Who needs a statue anyway?

In Burnley, there’s a bit of hoo-hah over whether to erect a statue of former MP Barbara Castle outside the local Labour party office (now home to Foreign Secretary and local MP Jack Straw). She’s the MP who introduced the breathalyser, paved the way for compulsory wearing of seatbelts in cars and brought in equal pay and child benefit. However, the local Conservative councillors are not happy. I bring you this quote from the article:

“It’s over the top,” said Colin Rigby, the leader of the Conservative group. “She’s already got a nice little bit of dual carriage-way named after her.”
