I would put this in the ‘cool sites’ category but it isn’t cool. BrainBoost attempts to be a new AskJeeves – you ask it a question and it uses web pages to find answers. Google Blogoscoped seemed to get some sense out of it, but none of the questions I asked returned anything approaching the answer I wanted.
The worst example was when I asked it ‘What is the most widely used web browser?‘. Its response? The Netscape Navigator is the most widely used Web browser; versions of it are available for Macintosh, Windows, and UNIX X Window systems. Oh dear.
What really takes the biscuit is that AskJeeves gave me the right answer, too.
