Webcam Woes

Installing webcam software is like making love to a beautiful woman dropping a brick on your foot. You do it once, realise it’s a bad idea and don’t do it again. Or at least, that’s the plan.
You see, sometimes I really shouldn’t give software developers the benefit of the doubt. I installed Labtec’s official webcam software last year, and it messed up my system. Tried again this evening, and it did the same again. Oh how screwed I’d be if it weren’t for System Restore…
As it is, I’m using the default drivers from Windows which kind-of work, although you can’t really see anything if it’s too dark. Previously it would adjust the light but now it…errr… doesn’t, and I don’t know why. Still, I’ve had enough grief tonight so I’ll leave it for some other time.

  1. I use ConquerCam for the Web cam at my office. It’s only updated every minute, but it can stream the images, I guess (though I’ve never used that feature).
But the software’s cheap, and does what I need it to do.

  2. What’s worrying is that at one stage you thought it was like making love to beautiful women.

Let’s hope you can show it who is boss.

  3. Quanta – there’s a TV show over here where one of the characters compares everything to ‘making love to a beautiful woman’. Do a Google Search :).
