The Questionnaire

Every Saturday, The Guardian publishes a questionnaire with a particular celebrity, usually one who has something happening at the time (this week it was Lenny Henry – Red Nose Day is less than 2 weeks away now). And as an idea for an entry, I decided to answer the questions myself.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

On the dance floor with my closest mates, with an absolutely awesome song playing.

What is your greatest fear?

That my friends will someday turn around and hate me.

Which living person do you most admire?

It’s a clichß, but I can’t fail to admire Nelson Mandella. He is a living legend. I do also admire Linus Torvalds and Richard Stallman for their visions which are now becoming reality.

Which historical figure do you identify with?

I’m not really a historical person, but I admire Charles Babbage and Charles Darwin. Without them, I’d be writing this on paper while questioning the meaning of life.

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?

I can be rather imposing and a bit of a tag-along.

What is the trait you most deplore in others?

Rudeness.

What is your greatest extravagance?

Getting my own computer.

What do you most dislike about your appearance?

The scar on my cheek, left over from when I had chicken pox as a child.

What objects do you always carry with you?

Mobile phone, keys, money, ID cards (all of which are legitimate, thankyouverymuch).

What makes you depressed?

Feeling rejected by people you thought you trusted.

Do you believe in capital punishment?

No. Too many innocent people have been killed because of miscarriages of justice.

What or who is the greatest love of your life?

I’d be lost without my computer. I’d prefer to have something less materialistic to love, but I’m not in a position to do so yet.

Which words or phrases do you overuse?

“random” and “quite blatently”.

How did you vote in the last election

Wasn’t old enough.

How will you vote in the next election?

Liberal Democrats. Tony Blair has lost my trust and the Conservatives are still as incompetent as ever.

What do you consider to be the most overrated virtue?

Humour. How many unfunny people do you know claim they have a sense of humour? That said, I am quite easily amused, as my friends will testify – purple, fact or fiction?

What keeps you awake at night?

Alcohol. It turns me into an insomniac.

What vehicles do you own?

None. I can’t drive.

How would you like to die?

Painlessly.

How would you like to be remembered?

As someone who was caring and friendly.

Do you believe in life after death?

Nope. Which is why I’m trying to get the most out of my life now.

What is the most important lesson life has taught you?

Treat others nicely, and most of them will do the same to you.
