TrackBack Weirdness

When Richy trackbacked the last entry, it originally came up with 3 pings. Similarly bunda previously pinged an entry 6 times accidently. Hmmm… I wonder if there’s a bug in Movable Type somewhere…
(and yes, I’ve created a new TrackBack post category, since this is the fourth post on the subject)

  1. The problem I had was that I had trackback auto discover enabled. I added your trackback link and when I published it also auto discovered it from my link to you in the post and pinged it again. Then every time I updated the post it pinged you again and again.
Moral of the story, don’t use auto discovery. It’s more trouble than it?s worth.

  2. I’m echoing bunda’s comments – I think “auto discovery” may play a part in the problem.
Also, MovableType seems to want to re-ping the same site over-and-over again every time you kfand^H^H^H^H^H edit a post. So, if you trackback to an entry, realise you’ve made a slight typo, correct it, MT still re-pings the original site – *even* if you remove the site from the ‘URLs to Ping’ field.
