Today Apple released QuickTime 7.2, which finally supports video playback in full screen mode, without the need to buy QuickTime Pro. In other words, it does something that Windows users have had for years in Windows Media Player without additional expense.

If you’re a Mac user, get yourself a copy of Perian. It’s a small add-in for QuickTime which enables it to play back a much wider range of video formats, including DivX, XVid, Flash Video, 3ivX and a number of others.

One new iTunes feature the slipped by me was the new ‘Apple Lossless Encoder’. Unlike music formats like MP3, AAC and Ogg Vorbis, lossless encoding results in no loss of quality – the music file sounds exactly like the original.
