Today I did my first hill start (i.e. starting the car and getting it to move on a hill). It wasn’t the greatest hill start ever but I got the car started and moving in the right direction, which, considering it was only my third lesson, makes me quite happy
. Hill starts are taught early in Bradford anyway, I believe, mainly because there are so many hills here and not many flat roads to learn on.
My laptop’s hard drive is now essentially dead. The system can read from it sometimes, but Windows now won’t boot. So I’m stuck with a Live CD of Mandriva One for now.
And ‘for now’, I mean 1-2 weeks, because I have now ordered the fabled MacBook! For budget reasons I’ve stuck with the 1.83 GHz model instead of the 2.0 GHz model, but I have opted for a memory upgrade to 1 GB MB and a mini-DVI-to-VGA adaptor since it might be useful. I also bought Hari’s birthday present yesterday, but more on that soon.

Not sure why you bothered upgrading to 1Mb of memory, 640k should be more than enough for everybody.

You will love your Macbook.

If you didn’t let Hari read your blog, you do realise you could have told us what you got her…

Oh she already knows – she suggested it when I was ordering it. It’s just that it’ll be a little more special than what she might have expected…
.
But yeah, I’ll tell you what it is closer to the time

I never experienced troubles with hill starting, but my wife always does:)
