Today I discovered the joy that is Poundland.
Poundland is a chain of stores where all of its products cost £1. They sell a wide variety of stuff – often ends of lines and excess stock. Their shops tend to be in student towns and areas with high nunbers of low income families, so naturally Bradford has quite a large one. And it’s great!
For some reason I imagined it would only sell crap that no-one would ever need, however today me and Hari spent £18 between us on stuff. Sure, there is a lot of crap there but there’s some good stuff too, including some techy stuff – 4 port USB hubs and USB extension leads, Nokia hands-free kits, universal remote controls – as well as lots and lots of bags of crisps, tinned food, and jaffa cakes (proper McVities ones too). Over the years, had I done more of my shopping there I imagine I’d be much better off financially…
Okay, so it’s a bit of a chav shop, but it’s cheap and the products can be pretty good. I suppose the only danger is impulse buying and ending up with a load of crap that you don’t need (and thus wiping out any savings you would have made).

LOL… I can’t believe you admitted we went to Poundland! It’s a very taboo shop, at least where i come from anyway lol… It’s a great place to go to buy random cheap stuff though…
I mean where else can you get cookies, jaffa cakes, a waterproof clock (a neccessity, honest)and a whiteboard for £4?

We have “The Dollar Store” here, but I’ve never found any crap there that I can’t live without. Sure there was that plastic ketchup bottle, but I just didn’t think it was worth a whole dollar.

Don’t shop there myself, but there is one about 3 miles away.

I’m a bit fan of the Poundshop. Especially the batteries for my PDA, at £1 for 4 you can’t beat it.

i like poundland too.
the USB extension leads are great, but batteries arent such a good deal. I can get them for 70p elsewhere (same ones) mind yuo rechargeable ones are all right!
the USB hubs look tacky though. (do they work?)

Have you tried “Home Bargains” ?
Similar sort of thing, except not strictly doing things for a pound.
I like the range of indian pickles and spices they seem to do at very cheap prices from “SOods” foods.
Try the Mango Chutney, the minced garlic and minced ginger when they are available.

My Partner loves poundland and its crap stuff, must admit though his kids hate it when were in town as we always have to go in when were passing the shop. If for nothing other than a look see what new crap they got lol. Funny though he always ends up buying something even if we didnt need it at the time. This week its for xmas decs ccos theyre only a pound. hehe

Well I work in a Poundland Store in the north west and I love the job, the only problem I have is with SOME of the customers who think that they can treat the staff however they want! I serve on the tills and you can be certain that I will have atleast two people swearing at me a day! Thats why staff in Poundland are sometimes in bad moods!
