I’m testing the next version of the Nofollow plugin for MT, which now comes with a couple of options. This means that if you’re using your TypeKey account here and you’ve been approved, any links you make will not get the nofollow treatment.
For non-TypeKey users, if you’re a regular commenter then the link to your home page will not use nofollow but any links in your comment will do (hopefully the next version will let me that). Everyone else will have any URLs they post nofollowified.

Hopefully this version won’t break my dynamic pages like the last one. I’ll let you know.

Out of curiosity, does is strip all CSS formatting from anything within the MTPINGS tags? That was kind of a bummer in the last version.

Oh… I definitely approve of the option to allow TypeKey approved users to post URLs that’ll count towards PageRank. Considering no spammer will be able to post to those blogs which require them to be approved first, very good move!

Neil is this version public yet? I can’t find a download link. Care to post it?

Chris: No, it’s not yet public, but it probably will be very soon as no-one has found any bugs yet.
Dave2: No idea, I’m afraid.

Ben: that’s a load of FUD, in my opinion. I think nofollow is a good idea.

I have to agree with some of the things on that list. Especially that it wont stop comment spam. Even if the link has the nofollow attribute tacked on the end, it could still be clicked by a hapless user.
The other point is that it does indeed mark all commentors as spammers, although the way you’ve dealt with it does seem to be a good idea.

I think more then a few points on that list are valid, especially the point concerning comment spam. It’s almost naive to think that spammers be thawed by this (I doubt that their just going to go: “Oh my, this nofollow business is just too hard to get around to. I’m off to drive my Porsche to the local job search agency.”) It’s only a matter of time before they think of something more effective. That’s one thing about spammers, is that they are inventive.

You see, it works
. By the way, Jonathon, if you sign in to TypeKey without sending your email address your Gravatar doesn’t display. I don’t mind if TypeKey people don’t want to share their email addresses but I put that there if people want their Gravatars to work.
Of course, it would be nice if you could associate a Gravatar with a TypeKey account…
