Regular readers will know that a major part of my degree course centres around Java, so you may be surprised to know that I’m about to criticise it. You see, while Java is cross-platform and relatively simple, it’s as slow as hell. Anyone who has had to wait for an annoying Java applet to load in a Gecko browser will probably be able to relate to what I’m saying.
Anyway, OnlineBlog is currently linking to an article about Java and MS’s own C# language, which is part of their .Net strategy. It concludes that C# is much, much faster than Java.
This isn’t the first time I’ve heard this; indeed Pierre, one of the other Xteq dudes, sent me an article which produced the same findings. I just wish Sun Microsystems would stop spending their millions sueing MS for either including or not including Java in Windows, and actually spend some money on improving their runtimes. Maybe if that happened, Java would become a more viable alternative.
